His Majesty honours NRNs for their contributions
Kathmandu
October 11, 2003

His Majesty the King today presented letters of appreciation to the NRNs for their special contributions in their respective fields.

Among the NRNs being conferred with special honour at the inaugural session were Dr. Upendra Mahato from Russia, Bhim Udash from USA, actress Manisha Koirala from India, Dr. Shyam Dhwoj Karki from the USA, Dr. Raghav Dhital from the UK, Dev Kazi Dangol from Qatar , Ram P Thapa from Germany and Sirkirsna Shirisikool from Sri Lanka.

More than 200 NRNs from various parts of the world are gathering here in the capital. Nepal receives more than one billion US dollars each year in remittance.

According to the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) around 40 papers will be presented in the conference.

The next NRN conference expected to be held in 2005 has been proposed to be held in the USA, according to the FNCCI.

The conference is an important initiative in increasing partnership of the non-resident Nepalese in the development of Nepal. It is expected that it will be helpful to build prosperity in Nepal. The conference is expected to foster close and emotional relations between Nepalese scattered across the world and to create an environment conducive for NRNs to become good and effective partner in development of the country.
